the rain meme

Ah, rain—the precipitation that the whole world has a love/hate affair with. It waters the garden for free and ruins baseball games. It cools you off in the summer and it causes more ice and sleet to appear in the winter. Sometimes it is lovely and falls at a decent pace for a few hours, other times, it blasts the whole eastern seaboard away.

Poems and songs have been written about it, people have danced in it, others have cursed its entire existence, and still more refuse to go out and drive in it.

Now it’s time to roll some dice and see what the weather will have in store for you today.

PITCH BLACK ROMANCE

By the time anyone dares call this love, the scent of rot may already be curling beneath the floorboards, and secrets may have begun to flower in the dark.

The flowers came without a card. The marriage contract arrived with witnesses. Somebody has been paid to kill somebody else and keeps finding reasons to postpone an otherwise very simple job. Across town, a family is negotiating an engagement like a ceasefire; farther out, where the road disappears into trees, something buried last winter has started scratching at the cellar door.

Dark romance has endless ways to ruin a life. Crime will do. So will money, revenge, faith, hunger, family, old promises, and magic gone sour. Sometimes the person you want is the danger. Sometimes they are the only soul willing to follow you into the dark. Given enough time together, it becomes impossible to remember who first suggested digging deeper.

Outside, the windows have grown black enough to reflect your own silhouette—and something beyond the garden wall watches the house with eyes like lanterns in the rain, patient and unblinking.

Sooner or later, someone opens the door, and the dark rushes in, hungry as longing itself.

The idea behind cyberpunk comes from the thought that as technology advances, so broadens the gap between social status, where becoming middle class is an achievement and anyone wanting to become anything higher suffers from pipe dreams. This life is pain, where the only person you can really trust is yourself.

These are worlds defined by poverty or absolute control, where the net is your only escape from the troubles of the world. Cyborgs, meta-humans, AI, and corporations with undisputed power are what's being served out here. Do you have what it takes to survive?

THE AMNESIAC ROMANCE MEME

You found someone who cannot remember who they are.

Most people would probably do the sensible thing: call a doctor, check for ID, ask a few questions. Maybe even try not to become the one person this stranger clings to, now that their whole past has disappeared.

But instead, somehow, you ended up bringing them home.

It was only supposed to be a safe place to sleep while you tried to sort things out. Then they needed clothes, a name, someone to show them which bus to take. They learned where you keep the mugs. You found out they hate olives, though neither of you knows the reason. One night turned into several, and soon the empty spaces in their life started filling up with things the two of you picked out together.

Eventually, they stopped searching for themselves and started searching for you instead. They were lost, but now what they wanted most was for you to be there.

This would all be much easier if you knew who they had been before. A family could be searching for them, a lover expecting them home, or an enemy eager to finish whatever happened the first time. Perhaps their old life was perfectly ordinary. Perhaps it was anything but.

Either way, maybe you should have found out before you let yourself fall in love.

HOW TO PLAY

○ Comment as the amnesiac, the person who finds them, or whichever role sounds like the most fun (or the worst idea).
○ The memory loss can come from injury, magic, science, resurrection, curses, canon nonsense, or circumstances nobody understands yet.

Whether or not you’re a princess you’re strong, independent and confident in your own abilities. But sometimes you hit rock bottom, sometimes you find yourself in need of help. It’s okay, we all need a hero at times. And maybe they’re exactly who you need, or someone that you would have least expected.

Person in distress

1) Classic, fantasy rescue- Oh dear, somehow, someway you were captured by some nefarious ne’er-do-well. Now you’re locked in a tower/dungeon/whatever else you can come up with.
2) Kidnapped- Whether it was by dragon, a band of thieves or that one miscreant with that obviously evil mustache, you now need help escaping your confines.
3) Caught in a problem you created- Of course not all situations are caused by some villain looking to cause problems. No, sometimes you are your own worst enemy.
4) You don’t need saving- AKA: wrong damsel. Well this does happen sometimes. You don’t know who this person is that’s come to help you, but you’ve got everything under control here. Still perhaps you won’t say no to some extra help?

The knight in shining armor

1) Traveler- You were just minding your own business; either exploring a far off land or just passing through. All of sudden you’ve found yourself caught up helping this person.
2) Knight- Or perhaps you’re there on purpose; a knight, either metaphorically or literally, come to rescue someone in their hour of need.
3) The steed/squire/apprentice- The knight had failed, or maybe they themselves are need of help. Sometimes it falls to the sidekick to make things right.
4) Friend or family- Lets face it, the most important heroes and role models we can ever have are sometimes those we’ve known for most of your life.

Part of the appeal of the (under)age difference kink, as in legal-aged characters being involved with those that are underage, is how absolutely taboo and fucked up it is in most cultures. Romance is nice, but let's be honest; it's messed up, even if there is a romantic element. And that's what makes it fun. This meme is for nitty, gritty, not always pretty side of underage. You can play the psychological angles of both sides, whether their actions makes the older party tormented for their decision, and all the filthy, dirty, guilty, and sexy facets this kink can offer.

But my character is a good dude and would never _____! Well, you can always say it's a moment of weakness, they didn't think, aliens made them do it, emotions made them do it - or say fuck it, it's a meme. Make them feel guilty about it later.

But my character is underage and I want them to be the older party. Age them up or play against someone younger.

The villain won. War broke out. A person died who wasn't supposed to, or someone who should not have lived. A curse may have gone unchecked, or a horrible decision may have been left to continue. The ancients may have founded the world on a flaw so fundamental that everyone within it has just gotten used to it.

What if, just as all hope appears to be lost, a character from a different story intervenes?

They aren't included in any prophecy, and they don't know which tragedies are meant to be inevitable or which rules are meant to never be broken; they don't give a damn about the script—their purpose is to alter the situation and, er, give some helpful advice.

This could get interesting.

HOW TO PLAY

Start by commenting with your character, their canon, and the one thing in their world that desperately needs fixing.

It might be something huge, like a war, a villain, or a shattered world, or something deeply personal, like a single decision, a friend you've lost, or a relationship that has broken down. Whatever it is, it's what changed everything.

Taggers come from another universe and interfere.

All they need is a sufficient amount of information to grasp the problem; no previous knowledge of the canon is necessary, merely a readiness to get involved and advise.

Maybe they’ll fix it brilliantly. Maybe they’ll make it worse before it gets better. Or maybe they’ll find a new ending no one ever expected.

Congratulations!

You're getting married. Whether that's exciting, horrifying, politically necessary, or simply the least bad option on the table is another matter entirely.

Your parents signed the contract before either of you could walk. A monarch looked at a map and decided this seemed like a sensible way to prevent a war. Somebody inherited a title, a curse, or a kingdom with a spouse conveniently attached.
